RV Living With Kids in Eastland: School Enrollment, Space and Park Rules

RV Living With Kids in Eastland: School Enrollment, Space and Park Rules

A job comes up near Abilene or in Eastland County and the whole family comes along. The RV is the home, and the kids still need a school, a routine and room to be kids. We rent monthly RV sites in Eastland to working families, and this is what parents ask us most, with the school facts taken from official and statewide sources.

Quick answer: RV living with kids works well when you settle three things before you move: school enrollment, space, and park rules. In Texas, a child who lives in a district is entitled to enroll there, and Eastland ISD has three campuses: Siebert Elementary, Eastland Middle and Eastland High. Call the district at 254-631-5120 to confirm which campus serves your park address.

RV living with kids means a family lives full time in a travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome, usually on a monthly site at an RV park, while the children attend the local public school or learn at home. It is common with construction, pipeline and data center families who follow the work.

This is general information, not legal advice. For your child's situation, the district office has the final word.

Can your child enroll in school while you live in an RV park?

Yes. Under Texas Education Code section 25.001, a child who is at least 5 and under 21 on September 1 and lives in the district is entitled to enroll, as the Texas Association of School Boards explains. Living in an RV on a rented site is still living in the district.

Districts usually ask for three things: identification, records from the last school attended, and an immunization record. TASB notes that a district should not deny a child enrollment solely because identity papers or prior records are missing. If they are not provided, the law gives 30 days after enrollment before the district must take further steps. Bring what you have on day one.

What should families know about Eastland ISD?

Eastland ISD lists three campuses on its official website: Siebert Elementary School, Eastland Middle School and Eastland High School. The district office is at 900 W. Plummer, Eastland, TX 76448, phone 254-631-5120. The site has an online registration page and pages on immunizations. The teams play as the Mavs.

One thing to check first: your address decides your district. Our address is 10505 Interstate 20, Eastland, TX 76448. Before you move, call the district office with that address and ask which campus serves it, whether a bus route reaches the park, and where the stop is. We do not publish bus routes because the district sets them.

When is the best time to move kids mid-year?

A semester break is the easiest. A January move lets the kids start the spring term with everyone else. Ask the district for its calendar and the first day of the spring term, and call before the break so records can move while the office is open.

Mail matters here too. Schools send forms and report cards home, and you may need an address for proof of residency. Read how to get mail at an RV park in Texas before you move.

Which park rules matter most for families?

Quiet hours, pets and people per site. Our quiet hours run 10 PM to 7 AM, and many neighbors leave for job sites before sunrise, so evening noise outside carries. Pets are welcome, up to two per site, leashed in common areas. Before you add a person, a second vehicle or a long visit from family, ask the office.

Kids do well with a few family rules of your own on top: stay off other people's sites, take care on the park roads after dark, and never go to the river alone. The full list, and why each rule exists, is in long-term RV park rules explained.

How do you make the space work?

Pick the site with the most outdoor room. Our pull-throughs run up to 100 feet, which leaves space for the truck, a picnic table and a little yard life. A back-in costs $150 less and sits in the quieter rows we keep for monthly guests.

  • Give each child one bin or shelf that is theirs alone.
  • Set a homework spot and a fixed homework time.
  • Plan outdoor time every day. The Leon River runs through the park and Lake Leon is about 10 minutes away.
  • Use the laundry and the rebuilt shower house on site to take pressure off the rig.
  • Keep a weekly town trip on the calendar for the library, the park or a game.

What about internet for homework?

The park has Wi-Fi. Many long-stay families add Starlink or a cell hotspot so homework and streaming do not compete with the rest of the park in the evening. Compare the options in internet for RV living in rural Texas.

What is water safety like at a river park?

The river is the best part of the park and it needs respect. We have a private kayak launch on the Leon River. Rivers rise after rain, banks can be slick, and water hides depth. Keep children with an adult at the water, put life jackets on anyone in a kayak, and set a family rule that nobody goes to the bank alone.
